How much are excursions in Tunisia? An open price comparison for 2026

How much are excursions in Tunisia? As of October 2026, a shared day trip to Carthage or El Jem costs about €32 to €85 per person depending on where you book, a 2-day Sahara tour €104 to €143, and a quad ride or boat trip €24 to €46. Entrance tickets add €6 to €13. From two or three people, a private car usually works out cheaper per head.

We sell private day trips, so we have an interest here. That is why every third-party price on this page names the platform, links to the listing and is rounded to the euro, and why we say plainly where a coach tour is the better deal. All prices were checked in October 2026 and move with season and demand, so read them as a snapshot, not a promise.

How much are excursions in Tunisia in 2026?

Most classic day trips sell for €30 to €85 per person on shared tours, and the spread comes from what is bundled in, not from the sights themselves. The cheapest listings strip out tickets, lunch or the guide; the TUI programme puts all three in.

We pulled the prices below from public listings on Musement, TUI’s own excursion platform where the tours are run by TUI Tunisia, and from GetYourGuide, Civitatis and Tripadvisor. If you book in pounds, Musement’s UK site showed the same TUI tours at about £64 for Carthage and Sidi Bou Said from Hammamet, £71 to £73 for Kairouan and El Jem from Sousse and £44 to £45 for the El Jem half day.

Is a private driver cheaper than a coach excursion?

For one person, no: a shared coach tour is almost always cheaper. From two or three people, a private car priced per vehicle usually costs less per head, and from four it is rarely close.

The reason is simple arithmetic. A coach tour charges every seat, so a family of four pays four times. A car with a driver costs the same whether one or four people sit in it. The table puts both side by side; our prices cover the car and driver only, so remember to add tickets and lunch, which TUI and the GetYourGuide tours listed here already include.

Three quick scenarios

  • A solo traveller in Hammamet who wants Carthage and Sidi Bou Said: the €32 GetYourGuide coach tour wins on price, lunch and tickets included. Our car would cost €80 before tickets.
  • A couple in Hammamet in August: TUI’s Carthage day costs €148 for two. Our Tunis Carthage Sidi Bou Said excursion is €80 for the car, plus two Carthage tickets and lunch, and you leave when you want, not when the coach has finished its hotel round.
  • A family of four in Sousse on our El Jem Kairouan excursion: TUI would be €340. The car is €100, or €25 each, and the children under 12 pay 2 dinars at the monuments.

What does a day trip really cost once you add tickets and lunch?

Add about €12 per adult in tickets for El Jem plus Kairouan, and a lunch, to any car-only price. Even then, the private car comes out ahead from two people on this trip, and the gap widens with every extra passenger.

4 adults€340€100160 dinars, about €47
6 adults€510€130240 dinars, about €71

Lunch is the one line we cannot price for you, because you choose where to eat. As a reference point, Civitatis lists lunch on its own private day trips at €12 per person. Euro figures for tickets use the rate of 3.37 dinars per euro reported for 30 September 2026.

How much are the entrance fees at El Jem, Carthage and the Bardo?

Since 1 April 2026, foreign visitors pay 30 dinars at the Bardo and 20 dinars each at Carthage, El Jem and Kairouan, with a 45-dinar combined ticket for the Bardo and Carthage. A second rise is already scheduled for 1 January 2027.

The new grid was published in the Tunisian official journal on 31 March 2026 and took effect the next day, as reported by La Presse de Tunisie and Business News. The Bardo jumped 130% for foreign visitors. Personal photos are covered by the ticket.

  • Children under 12 with a paying adult, and foreign students with an international card, pay 2 dinars.
  • Dougga and Bulla Regia were not named in the published reports. The grid runs from 5 to 30 dinars by category, so carry some cash and check the price at the gate.
  • Tours sold before April 2026 may have been priced on the old fees. If a listing says tickets are included, it is worth confirming that still holds.

What is included in an excursion price, and what costs extra?

TUI’s day trips include transport, a guide, tickets and usually lunch; the cheapest platform listings include only the vehicle. Always read the "not included" list, because that is where the real price hides.

  • TUI on Musement: transport, guide and entrance fees on the El Jem tour; lunch added on Carthage and Kairouan full days. Free cancellation up to one day before.
  • GetYourGuide budget "VIP" listings from about €23: a private car and driver, but lunch, entry tickets and a specialist guide are excluded, and groups of four or six pay for an extra seat, per the listing.
  • Civitatis Carthage tour: lunch and guide included, Carthage admission and drinks excluded.
  • Sahara 2-day tours: drinks, accommodation tax, a single-room supplement (€10 to €15 on TUI, €35 on the GetYourGuide Sahara Express) and the optional camel ride in Douz are extra. The GetYourGuide tour also excludes site entry and adds €150 per person for 31 December departures.
  • Our private trips, run with licensed local agencies: car, driver and pickup at your hotel or any address in Hammamet, Sousse, Port El Kantaoui or Tunis. Entrance tickets and lunch are not included, and there is no deposit and no reception markup.

How much should you tip on an excursion in Tunisia?

Around 10% in restaurants is the norm, and drivers and guides are usually tipped as well. There is no fixed rate for a day trip, so tip what reflects the day you had.

That guidance comes from Discover Tunisia, the national tourist office’s site, which also suggests leaving restaurant tips in cash so the waiter actually gets them. A few GetYourGuide tours, such as one Kairouan and El Jem trip, list the tip as included, so check before you pay twice.

How much do Sahara trips, boat trips, quads and camel rides cost?

Expect €104 to €143 per person for a 2-day Sahara tour, €33 to €46 for a half-day boat trip, €24 to €35 for a 2-hour quad ride and from €30 for a camel ride in the hills. We do not sell any of these, so these figures come only from public listings.

  • Sahara in 2 days: TUI lists €104 from Hammamet (£125 for its film-set version on the UK site) and €143 from Sousse; GetYourGuide’s Sahara Express shows €110. These are long road days, and one night in a camp or hotel is included.
  • Boats: the TUI pirate boat from Sousse is €36 with snacks and drinks on board; catamaran cruises on GetYourGuide run €38 to €46.
  • Quads: TUI’s Sousse quad safari is €33 but does not say if that is per person or per quad. Ask, because two people on one quad changes the maths.
  • Camel rides: from €30 on GetYourGuide in the Hammamet hills, from €40 combined with a quad ride around Sousse and Monastir.

Should you pay for excursions in dinars or euros?

Either works with most operators, but you cannot bring dinars into Tunisia or take them out, so you will change money on arrival. Pay in the currency the price was quoted in, and if you switch, agree the rate before the day starts.

  • The dinar is a closed currency: Germany’s Auswärtiges Amt states that dinars may be neither imported nor exported, and the UK FCDO says you are not allowed to take them out.
  • Foreign cash worth 10,000 dinars or more must be declared to customs on arrival. Non-residents who want to take more than the equivalent of 5,000 dinars back out need that endorsed entry declaration, according to Managers.
  • Changing money in the street is illegal. Use banks, hotel desks or exchange offices and keep the official receipts, as the FCDO advises.
  • On 30 September 2026 the reference rate was about 3.37 dinars per euro and 3.93 per pound, per Tuniscope.

With us you pay the driver at the end of the day, in euros or dinars, so there is nothing to pay upfront and nothing to convert in advance.

How do you spot hidden fees and excursion scams at the hotel?

The common catch is not a scam but a markup: a tour sold at reception, by a rep or on the beach is usually a local agency’s product with a commission on top. Real problems start when you pay cash upfront and get nothing in writing.

We could not find a published, verifiable reception price list, so we will not quote one. The mechanism is easy to test, though: ask the desk which agency runs the trip, then look that agency up online and compare.

  • A price with no written list of what is and is not included.
  • Cash requested in advance with no receipt, booking reference or agency name.
  • "All inclusive" that turns out to exclude tickets, lunch or the guide.
  • A per-person price for a quad, boat or car that becomes per-seat or per-vehicle on the day.
  • Shop stops you did not ask for. Ask in advance whether the day includes carpet, perfume or pottery shops.

The UK FCDO also notes that confidence tricks are sometimes used as a distraction for theft. For the wider picture, our guide on whether Tunisia is safe to visit covers the resort areas.

What are the cancellation terms for excursions in Tunisia?

Most platforms refund in full up to 24 hours before departure; TUI on Musement allows up to one day before. A few private multi-day tours need a week’s notice, so check before you book.

  • TUI on Musement: 100% refund up to one day before.
  • GetYourGuide and Tripadvisor listings checked here: full refund up to 24 hours before; nothing back within 24 hours.
  • Civitatis: 24 hours for the Carthage tour, 48 hours for Kairouan and El Djem, 7 days for private day trips.
  • Our trips: free cancellation up to 48 hours before, and since there is no deposit, there is nothing to claw back.

How do you book an excursion in Tunisia without overpaying?

Questions people ask

How much are camel rides in Tunisia?

In October 2026, GetYourGuide listed camel or dromedary rides in the hills behind Hammamet from €30 per person, and quad plus camel combinations around Sousse and Monastir from €40. On TUI’s 2-day Sahara tours, the camel ride in Douz is an optional extra paid locally, so budget for it separately.

Is Tunisia expensive for tourists?

For excursions, not by European standards. Shared day trips run from about €32 to €85 per person, and even after the April 2026 increase Carthage, El Jem and Kairouan charge 20 dinars, roughly €6. The Bardo is the priciest at 30 dinars. Prices for foreign visitors are due to rise again in January 2027.

How much spending money do I need for excursions in Tunisia?

For two shared day trips per person, plan on roughly €64 to €170 depending on the operator, plus tips. If tickets and lunch are not included, add about €6 to €13 per site and a meal. A 2-day Sahara tour adds €104 to €143. Groups of three or more save by sharing a private car.

Is it cheaper to book excursions in Tunisia locally or online?

Online platforms show their prices openly, which makes comparing easy. Tours sold at hotel reception or by reps usually come from local agencies with a commission added, but we found no published price list to quantify it. Whatever you choose, ask who runs the trip and what is included before you pay.

Can I pay for excursions in Tunisia in euros?

Many operators accept euros, and we take euros or dinars at the end of the day. You cannot bring dinars in or take them out, so change money locally at a bank or exchange office and keep the receipts. If a price is quoted in dinars and you pay in euros, agree the rate first.

Do you tip the driver on a day trip in Tunisia?

Yes, tipping drivers and guides is customary in Tunisia, according to the national tourist office, alongside about 10% in restaurants. There is no fixed amount for a day trip. Tip in cash, in dinars or euros, and check first whether your booking already includes gratuities, as a few online listings do.
