Why choose the Sidi Bou Said half day excursion
Sidi Bou Said needs about two hours once you arrive, and Carthage sits right on the road there. The Sidi Bou Said half day excursion links the two with one drive each way, about 4 h 45 min door to door from Hammamet. You walk the Roman ruins while it is cool, then climb the village lanes before the crowds build up. Both stops are UNESCO World Heritage sites, as Sidi Bou Said joined the list in July 2026.

Carthage
Roman and Punic city, UNESCO, about 1 h 15
Start with the Roman villas and the Antonine Baths, with the sea behind the columns, then Byrsa Hill for the view over the gulf. The sites are spread out, so the driver moves the car between them and you hardly walk in the sun.

Sidi Bou Said
Blue-and-white village, UNESCO, about 1 h 30
Up the cobbled main street to the Café des Nattes, along the quieter lanes towards the lighthouse, and down to the terraces above the marina. An hour and a half is enough to see the village properly without rushing.

The route on the map
Carthage and Sidi Bou Said are neighbours on the coast north of Tunis. Choose your pickup city to see the drive, or a stop to see it up close.
Driving times on the map are Google estimates. Your driver knows the quicker roads.
Half day or full day?
Both trips start at your hotel in a private car, so the choice comes down to time and interests. These three points help you decide.
- Choose the half day if…
- you want the village and the ruins without a long day, or you are travelling with young children. It also leaves the afternoon free for the beach.
- Choose the full day if…
- you also want the medina of Tunis and its souks. The full day adds about two hours and costs a little more per car, so it works out cheaper per hour.
- Prefer the afternoon light?
- We can run the half day in the afternoon instead, with a 13:00 pickup. Sidi Bou Said is lovely in the late light, and the price stays the same.
Sidi Bou Said half day excursion prices per car
From Hammamet or Tunis the half day costs €70 for up to four people; from Sousse or Port El Kantaoui it costs €120, as the drive is longer. The price is fixed per car, with no deposit, and you pay the driver when you are back. Entrance to Carthage is paid on the spot.

Good to know
The village is small but steep, and it gets busy from late morning. These tips help you see it at its best.
The main street climbs
The cobbled street up to the Café des Nattes is steep in places. Flat, closed shoes make it much easier.
Bring cash for small things
Cafés and small shops in the village prefer dinars in cash. The driver can stop at a cash machine on the way.
Photos without the crowd
Walk straight past the first terraces. The lanes behind the main street are just as pretty and much quieter.
Sidi Bou Said half day excursion: common questions
Here are the questions people ask most about this morning out. For anything else, just send us a message.
How long is the half day?
About 4 h 45 min door to door from Hammamet, with pickup at 08:00 and back at your hotel around 12:45. From Tunis it is shorter, and from Sousse a little longer.
How much does the Sidi Bou Said half day excursion cost?
€70 per car from Hammamet or Tunis for one to four people, and €120 from Sousse or Port El Kantaoui. The price covers the car, the driver, fuel and tolls. The Carthage ticket is extra.
Is half a day enough for Sidi Bou Said?
Yes. The village is small, and an hour and a half lets you see the main street, the side lanes and the terraces without rushing. Half a day also leaves time for Carthage on the way.
What is the best time to visit Sidi Bou Said?
Early morning is quietest, before the coach groups arrive in late morning. Late afternoon has the softest light for photos. That is why we offer both a morning and an afternoon departure.
Can we skip Carthage?
Yes. Tell the driver and you will have more time in Sidi Bou Said, or a stop in La Marsa for a coffee by the sea. The price stays the same.
Can we do it in the afternoon?
Yes, with a 13:00 pickup. You see Sidi Bou Said in the late light, and the price does not change.
Is the half day good with children?
Yes, it is one of the easiest days we run: two stops, little time in the car and back for lunch. Child seats are free on request.
Do we need to book far ahead?
A day or two is usually enough. In July and August, book a few days ahead for a morning departure.
